High dynamic range or HDR photography uses a method of digital processing where several exposures of a high contrast scene are mapped / combined into a single file. The goal of HDR processing is to help expand the amount of visible detail in both the brightest and darkest areas of an image, as compared to what can be captured in a single exposure.
